Swimming Program
Waterfront Director: Samantha Ball
Bronze I: Our beginning level is for children six years old and starts with water awareness basics, leading to some skill development depending on the individual child. This program starts in the beach end of the waterfront.
Bronze II: This is the next step for swimmers who have attained the required skill level and instructor’s approval. Some water/stroke mechanics are taught, as well as some deep water skills. This program takes place both in the beach end and the general swimming area. These swimmers will begin a basic snorkeling course and will be required to bring their own goggles/masks and fins.
Silver: Our intermediate program is designed for children with a high degree of comfort swimming in the general swimming area. These children should be able to tread water for approximately one minute. Water safety skills will be taught with the swimmers exposed to some lake safety instruction. All four swimming strokes will be taught: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. This group will also take the snorkeling class and should supply their own equipment. One of the goals of this group will be to attempt the lake swim in August.
Gold I: These intermediate/advanced swimmers should be able to swim at least two of the basic four strokes. It is preferred that swimmers in this group complete the Silver program. Besides the four competitive strokes, swimmers will learn advanced life-saving skills. Advanced snorkeling, underwater exploration skills will also be taught. Some basic diving skills will be developed at this level.
Gold II: This is the Club’s most advanced group. A high degree of competence is expected, and prior experience at the Gold I level is expected. Gold I skills will be fine-tuned, and this group will focus on more fitness-type water abilities. There will be more swims, longer swims, with a goal of the lake swim at a more advanced pace. Snorkeling will be done in a more advanced style. More advanced life-saving skills will also be introduced.
